Multi-factor-authentication (MFA) and how to enable it

Why is it important to enable MFA?

We strongly recommend that you enable Multi-factor-authentication (MFA) for the following reasons

Security! MFA greatly increases the security of your account. Even if someone knows your password, they will not be able to access your account.

Verifying your identity with a second factor (your mobile phone) prevents someone else from logging into your account, even if they know your password. This makes it harder for hackers to access your account and helps protect your personal information.

How do I enable MFA?

1. Open the menu by clicking on your email address in the top right hand corner and click on «Settings».
2. Now select «Security» from the menu on the left. 
3. You will now see «Multi-factor-authentication» in the middle.
4. Click the green «Enable now» button to start setting up your MFA. 
5. Enter your password in the pop-up window.
6. Use an authenticator app on your smartphone to capture the QR code. If you don't have an authenticator app installed, you can download one from App Store or Google Play Store.
7. Enter the code that appears in the authenticator app and click «Next». Please note that this code is a TOTP (time-based one-time password) and will change every 30 seconds. If you wait too long, you will need to enter a new code.
8. In the next step, enter your mobile phone number so that we can identify you if you are unable to log in to your account.
9. In the final confirmation screen, you will be shown a recovery code. Write this code down or copy it to a safe place as you will need it to access your account in an emergency (e.g. if you lose your mobile phone and access to your Authentificator app). Once you have saved the recovery codes, click «Complete Activation».
10. Multi-factor-authentication is now set up. The next time you sign in, you will need to enter the code from your Authenticator app in addition to your password.
